Q: Why do so many runners endorse chiropractors?
A: Because a doctor offers an injured athlete 3 rather poor options: rest, meds, and surgery. A good chiro is far more effectual resolving neurological, musculoskeletal, and range of motion issues.
Q: AMA condemns the field as pseudoscience.
A: Medical doctors once endorsed cigarettes too. However, in 1990 the AMA was found guilty of engaging in a conspiracy "to contain and eliminate the chiropractic profession," and held to be in violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act. The court declared the AMA had been working aggressively to "overtly and covertly" eliminate the profession of chiropractic as far back as 1963.
Footnote: there are quack chiros and quack MDs. Find a good referral and you'll be all set. Most colleges and running clubs know where to send their injured athletes.
