I am glad that finally someone spoke about these ugly shirts that are being given at races. I gave up short races long time ago and mostly do marathons. As recent as last Saturday I gave a bag full of these shirts to someone. I think there is a miscnception that all runners use their race shirts for running. Many like me use the old fashion cotton or cotton blend shirts for casual wear with jeans etc. As marathoners its a pleasure to go out for an evening and wear a shirt which feels like shirt with the race logo etc and not like a rag at a car wash. Also try folding these shirts in order to stack'um in your closet. It simply doesn't work. They slip and slide away all over and create a mess. Also most of these shirts are made white. People, there is such thing as warm colores. All os us don't live in LA. Please keep on writing more about this and may be the race directors will wake up. About the skyrocketing entry fees, try $255.00 + $11.00 initial application fee for New York marathon. When I spoke to someone about this they said NYRRC is a non-profit oragnization. Ya, right! and I hold the world record in marathons!! Aside from high entry fees check out prices of stuff at the expos. Corporate greed is what comes to mind!!! Running, especailly marathons used to be a healthy and enjoyable sport. Now it has become a greedy, money grabing machine.
