Hi Howie, I wish you the very best of luck with your new life change. My disclaimer: I have no kids myself, but for what it is worth, I would go local for now, and see how well training meshes with your new family. If it's good, you can always do a road marathon 6 to 12 months from now, like when the kid sleeps during the night. If it's tougher than you thought, you've saved the logistical mess, non-refundable plane fares. If your training time is reduced and you have a dud of a race, can how bummed would you be? Only you can say, but maybe less so for a race that isn't new, as opposed to something you've got your heart set on, like a New York or Boston or whatever. As time goes by, you're going to have a better feel for the new situation. Just my opinion. Good luck!
