I'm an East Coaster in the midst of my life-goal of 50 marathons in 50 states, and I have yet to tackle the Mountain West. The highest elevation I've run is Vegas. I've done 5-mile runs in Denver without ill effects, but how does one train for a marathon in Colorado, Wyoming, etc.? I've heard that you should either do the run within 36 hours of arriving, or acclimate over a course of 2 weeks. I'm not expecting to PR— just to complete it—so how do people train for elevation runs?
