If you are looking for events, unless you have an unlimited budget and unlimited time, think local. Start off with running stores in your community. Many have websites; some provide calendars not only of races in which they are involved but also others in the region.
If you speak to local runners -again, staff in your local runners' shop come to mind - they may be able to provide helpful advice.
If you don't see yourself as having a local running shop, resort to Google or a similar search engine to look for races in your community online. Often the links will take you to lists provided by some running club.
