Hey, thanks for the reply and advice. I actually recovered from this marathon beautifully. No problems with stairs like after my other 2. I PR'd in every race distance this year except for the marathon. All of the prediction calculators suggest that I can indeed run a 4:00 marathon. My time for Hartford was a pathetic (for me) 4:25. However, I felt so darn bad that I guess I should be grateful it wasn't 5 hours. And actually, I beat last year's Hartford time by a whole 40 seconds. Woo hoo.
My first clue that something was wrong at Hartford - I did not feel like I had to hold myself back from the start. I did not have that "energized" feeling that you should get after doing a taper. I almost feel like I just peaked at the wrong time, though I followed a training schedule and took a decent taper.
Though I have friends who fuel less than me and still do better, I guess my body operates differently in that I need the calories/carbs to push on.
Even if I don't get a 4 hour time at Harrisburg, I would still feel encouraged if I knocked like 10 min. off my time, which seems reasonable. I am really excited about this one.
