I agree...your principal objective should be to simply finish. Do not make the common rookie mistake of fixating on a specific time or it may lead you to a DNF.
From an energy management point of view the marathon is made up of 2 "equal halves": the first 20 miles and the last 6.2. The truth of that adage will be evident to you on race day.
