Nobody likes to get so far into a training and preparation plan and then have to back out of an event due to injury. It can be very frustrating.
Let me be the Devil's advocat for a moment. I would think with 2 major setbacks in such a short amount of time that put you out of 2 races that maybe you're missing something. Perhaps you're bringing up your mileage too quick, or doing to much speedword, or not stretching properly after your workouts, maybe you have a slight leg length discrepancy...there is an almost endless list of possibilities. I don't know what kind of support system there is in your area, but you might want to look into a running group that will help you train, give insight into things like stretching and massage and all sorts of other info. It's just a thought.
I hope that you are able to get past this calf injury, and go on to many half's and marathons, and a lifetime of painfree running.
