Sorry to hear about your injury. I've not had that specific injury so I'm not sure what type of shoe(motion control, stability, cushioned) is best to prevent that. If your foot isn't 100% then I would forget about running a marathon until the fall. From July through September there aren't too many marathons in the midwest because it is too hot. In October, Chicago would be close to where you're at. That might be a good one. For your first marathon, why not the best? I believe that was Jimmy Carter's campaign slogan in 1976. Chicago is without a doubt one of the best to run. I also think Indianapolis has a marathon in October. For a listing click on the "US Races" link under the Marathon Directory heading. The marathons are listed by date and you can find the ones closest to you. I would let that injury completely heal before I continued training.
