Thanks for the perspectives and advice!!

Since my post, I was to do an 18-miler last weekend and I ended up doing a 20 instead. Went pretty well. I kept my pace slow and relaxed for the first 6 miles, then just a bit faster for the next 10. Must have hit a wall about 17.5, but within a mile or so I was better again. Jogged the last part, and could have gone farther. Had this been marathon day, I would have only had to average 15:30 per mile for the last 6.2 to have been under 6 hours.

Ran 6 miles today, my right achilles was real tight and bothered for the first three miles. However, when I picked up the pace on the last half, it soon felt better and it didn't bother me much at the end. However soon after the run I felt tightness again, so I have been soaking my feet in ice water off and on much of the evening...
