I used Higdon's Novice plan to train for my first marathon and the set back weeks were good for me. Since then I have incorporated set back weeks into the hybrid plans I've created from multiple sources. One of the very real challenges in training for a marathon is staying healthy/injury free and the set back weeks certainly help with that by allowing your body a bit of recovery along the ramp up to peak mileage.
