The expo is pretty much pagan temple stuff (although I intend on purchasing running shorts with the BBA logo, as I almost did last year, out of pure vanity and with stern denial of the ourageous amount it will cost) although it's a huge temple and most people there are tourists (which makes the prices go up; ah! le monde libre!) and not runners of the marathon (just a few of us in the back parts where we collect our bibs and sundry articles, most of which being of relative or no use, but they're temple icons nonetheless)).
As for the beer, sample my friend! Drinking alcohol the day before a race is not really recommended (unless you're with the HHH) but I find that a sip will relax me and help me unwind the evening before the race - and this is a noon race, you'd have to work hard at it to be hung over at noon... :-))))).
This could ba a great thread: How Was it Like the Last Time You Ran a Marathon on a Hangover?
But I wouldn't make plans for after the race just yet. Keep your options open because you might not feel like partying, short stagger or not... Boston is a demanding course (not just the hills and all, but it gets chilly as you near Boston and you have to fight against that, and the crowd is quite intimidating, I can't think of a more difficult race).
Enjoy it... Runners are lucky like this, but our luck can slip away with no notice. Run in peace.
