I am PRETTY sure I actually wasn't favoring the knee -- only b/c it didn't hurt AT ALL when I was running (to my great relief). (It still hurt -- before the run -- on stairs, but not on the "flats").
I think (hope) this is just from running 24 miles. BUT here goes:
The feeling is like when you do a stretch (e.g., a calf "runner's" stretch, with one leg out and one leg back?), and the muscle really feels "extended." But it feels that way if I am in anything but a seated position (i.e., if my knee is anything but bent). When I stretch the foot down (to the ground) I get that "hard extended stretch" feeling. Harder, as I push the heel toward the ground.
If I keep my heel off the ground, no "pain." If I try to "walk normally", the most "pain" is when I am rolling from the middle of my foot toward the toe." It pulls on the top of my calf, and behind my knee (hence, the lovely "foot drag" today).
The compression bandage has helped it -- and is on so I couldn't tell you right now what it would do if it was off.
Does that help?
