First off, it's not my race and the BAA sets the rules. That is that. It is a race after all so the process should favor the fastest runners and I like that they have at least sliced the pie to give older runners the same chances as younger faster runners by doing age specific qualifying times. No problem with that or with gender equality, all good and fair. BUT I still feel for those runners that after 5 or 6 years or more of trying finally make their qualifying time by seconds or minutes and yet will have no chance of every toeing the line in Hopkinton. My suggestion would be to reserve some small percent of the entries to be awarded by lottery for those that qualify that didn't get selected. It gives at least some hope to those that just-qualified to get a number. I know it seems like charity, (but the race is notorious for allowing "charity runners" that didn't qualify), at least these guys qualified, barely, and for some that may be the best they can ever do. They should get at least a chance to be rewarded.
