I think rolling registration is a pretty reasonable solution. But there is no reason at all for that process to begin 8 mos. prior to Patriot's Day. It's extremely inconsiderate to anyone hoping to earn a BQ in a fall race (not to mention the fall marathon directors themselves who promote their events as Boston qualifiers.)
