You echo my thoughts exactly.

I have lived in NYC for 12 years and have supported them all along. I ran the NYC marathon 6 times from 98-04 (got in mostly with the 9 races guaranteed entry), but have since branched out and run some very good smaller marathons - Cape Cod, Vermont, Wineglass, Philly, National Marathon in DC, New Jersey. NYRR should realize they are not the only marathon around.

I love how NYRR says that it's an exciting new opportunity to get guaranteed entry into the 2012 half - by running 4 of their other half-marathon races! Give us more money and you are in. I guess this is the only way they can fill their races in the other boros.

The blogs, especially the NYRR facebook pages were loaded with complaints and the overall negativity of the NYRR.

I believe their CEO made 400k last year or the year before.

One other thing, NYRR is the beneficiary of having a great park in Central Park for their races. 9 million people and a fabulous park will of course fill their races. It's not that they are working any sort of magic out there.

I too now am very selective as to which of their race I run.

Thanks for your post.
