I am a back of the pack marathoner (PR of 4:22 but have completed a marathon as slowly at 5:50 or so). I train and run spring marathons in general better than fall marathons because of the summer heat in Dallas, TX. I am signed up to do the Big Sur Marathon in May. I am worried about the lack of long hills in Dallas and how to train for the many hills I will face in May. I am thinking about doing longish hill runs on a treadmill with about a 5% or so incline. But I have no idea how to train for the downhills and would love some advice on that. I run in Vibram Bikilas and have finished one marathon in those 'shoes'. Felt great and recovered faster than I ever have in shoes. This is consistent with my experience on the long runs. Thanks in advance for your time.
