Training for spring marathon

Hello. I will be running my 4th marathon this coming spring and, although it might be unrealistic, I would like to qualify for Boston (I need 3:15 or less). My previous times are 3:34 (fall 06), 3:31(fall 07), and 3:23(fall 09), so I need to cut about 8 minutes off my best and most recent race. I plan on training longer and harder for this marathon, but i just don't know if i'm doing the right type of stuff. For example, I have run the previous marathons at weights between 177-182...would dropping extra weight (getting under 170 lbs) help me or could it hurt my training? From my experience it seems hard to lose weight while training. Is cross-training and/or weight training recommended? Also, has anyone read and have any opinion about the book "Advanced Marathon Training" by Pete Pfitzinger? Thanks
