Part of the reason for the taper is to give your body a chance to load up on the carbs. From 4 to 8 weeks before your marathon you are running some serious distances and eating to support your bodies demands for fuel. During the 3 week taper you will eat pretty much the same while exercising less. This allows your body to load up on the carbs. Hopefully you are not substituting hard swimming work outs for your running. Good luck :-)
