Marathons 7 Weeks Apart

I just ran Wineglass on Oct 3 and did not perform as I had hoped, finishing 10-15 mins slower than my goal time and 8 mins slower than my BQ time. Hence, I am very dissapointed. I believe I was very dehydrated. I am in the same top shape I was in when I set a PR last May 2009, so that is why it is so frustrating, even though I realize anything can happen on race day.

I have run 13 marathons and have never done more than 2 in a year and they are usually 5-6 months apart. I am contemplating bouncing right back and doing Philly on Nov. 21, but I have never done marathons so close together. I trained hard for 16 weeks averaging 50-55 miles per week with each week usually consisting of a Long Run, Tempo or Speed, and Marathon Pace Run. Sometimes I'd do a tempo and a speed run in the same week and not do the marathon pace run. My legs actually feel very good, probably since I ran the last 5 miles so slow!

With 6 weeks until Philly, I am not exactly sure of a plan. Rest/recover for 2 weeks, train for 3 weeks and then taper again for 2 weeks? How many long runs to do? My long runs (> 18 miles) in training for Wineglass were 18, 20, 21, 21.5, 22.5).

Any thoughts, advice, etc would be appreciated.

- Lawrence
