LB- I always train with just water, and then use Gatorade provided on the course for hydration. I have experienced no end of the marathon cramping since I switched to this approach, though I suppose that may be just coincidental to greater fitness. The feeling I get though is that the Gatorade feels like an extra boost that my body is not used to, and I am able to maintain pace better as a result. Do not drink Gatorade if you are going to also use gels though because you are going to dehydrate yourself and get an upset stomach to boot. I don't know about the whole saltwater thing, though I do like Gatorade Endurance formula during the race. I would be a little concerned about dosing the water improperly, and it seems like it is simpler to just let the folks at Gatorade handle all that.
