where to start... are you a runner? have you run any other distances? how many weeks do you have until CIM? Most marathon training programs take about four months and assume you have been running for 'some' amount of time as they generally start out with a 'long run' of a certain distance. Check out HalHigdon.com, his easiest program is 18 weeks and will get you to the finish line if you start race day at a conservative pace.
It is generally better to have some years of running and racing before moving to the marathon. That way you avoid common injuries that happen when ramping up miles too quickly, not know the correct shoes, gear, hydration, fueling etc. The internet is a great place to read about what you need to know, no sense making mistakes for which others have already found the answers.
