etiquette - farms?

I live in a rural, hilly area with many farms. A lot of the paved roads do not have wide shoulders, and it is more pleasant and safer to run in the open spaces. Is it OK to run through farms on the paths between crop fields? I'm not talking about running in pastures where animals are grazing, I have no desire to test my skills running from a cow. There are tractor paths through the area, so I wouldn't be trampling crops, but it is private property.
