Hi, I ran my first ever marathon about 3 weeks ago in Oakland. The course has some hills in the first half. I was ok with those hills. Downhill was quite steep but i did a very slow run on downhill. The second half is flat. Once I got to mile 15, my knees were real painful and i ended up walking to the finish. After 3 - 4 days, all the soreness and pain were gone. Last week, I ran a half-marathon. This time, not even 1 mile yet, my knees were painful and it was painful the entire race. I did finish it though. But on the next day, it is not painful anymore.

My concern is: is it something serious since my knees were painful the entire half marathon? Or is it just coz i did not have enough rest? I didn't know i should rest 4 to 6 weeks after a marathon. Since i didn't have any more soreness, i thought it should be quite easy to do half since i finish a full already.

Thanks in advance for your advices and sharing. moe
