This is something a friend sent me before my first marathon- I have read it the week/days before each one since.
Hello AWESOME MARATHON RUNNER!!! I am sooooooooooooooooo excited for your run on Sunday. I am so sorry that I will not be there to cheer you on, but I WILL be thinking about you! Make sure to 1. pace yourself 2. relax 3. smile 4. HAVE FUN! Very few people in this world tackle such a thing (that you have tackled once before), even though it will feel like everyone is a marathoner when you are squashed with them at the start! I have another little tip. I always take my dad with me on my marathons. I tape an old picture of him sitting on the ground with a Coors on the inside of my bib. When I am feeling weak and overwhelmed, I think about the strength it took for him to battle cancer. Then I realize how blessed I am to be healthy and running and it gives me that extra push to keep going. So, if you don't have anything taped under your bib, try a photo of someone inspirational or a quote.... "All glory comes from daring to begin." ancient proverb "When you're going through hell, keep going." -Winston Churchill "Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage." -Anais Nin Sooo...have a GREAT TIME!!!!
