I read a book recently titled, "Boston: the First Century" or Boston: a Century". It may be out of print since I have not seen it in stores but it was a great book. The pictures of things like the shoes they wore back in the early days(they looked like bowling shoes) and the start of the 1912 race(the road was very muddy) made this a great history book. There were many things I did not know such as there were no water stops for much of the race's history. People ran from start to finish without a drink or took drink from people watching. The number of racers at the start didn't exceed 1000 until fairly recently. The temperature hit 90 degrees in '76. Seeing the pictures of the runners and the old cars parked on the side of the road is interesting for car buffs.
