I was pretty much an athlete more than a runner and took on a half marathon a couple years ago with only a month and a half of training. What I found out was that running long distance is really really tough if you just jump in. But it is possible. I think you have time if it is in January. Remember when you play basketball you basically are running like 5 to 10 miles if you play for hours. Not quite the same but you are capable
