Covering 20 miles for your longest run before your first marathon is just fine. How much of your weekly mileage total does your long run account for? Some beginner plans will have you doing 50% of your weekly mileage during your long run which makes the long run pretty tough.

You don't HAVE to use Gu on your long runs, but it IS important to practice whatever you will be doing during the marathon.

Make sure you hydrate well on your long runs as well. Purchase a water bottle you can carry or a fuel belt that will carry your liquids for your long runs. This will make both your long runs and the recovery from them easier.

You are about to enter a very select group - marathon finishers. Congratulations on having the will to take this challenge on and stay with the training over the many weeks required. Be sure and let us know how your marathon experience turns out.
