As RunTex said... early is a good thing so you can absorb the water to process the gels.

I start at the first water stop and grab a cup, fold it down, keep running and sip as I go. I might not get all the water, but a little bit each stop adds up. Stashing water during a long run is one thing, that's the water you NEED. Another thing is to practice drinking while running. Find a loop course, enlist a friend to sit at some point with water & paper cups... practice grabbing the cups on the run, folding them & drinking. It took some practice so I wouldn't get it up my nose. Some peole walk, I've even heard of a few carrying a straw...find out what works for you. -Rita
