Following my latest marathon in early December, I began to have fluid building up around my knee. I went to my orthopedic doctor who took xrays, saw nothing of great concern and prescribed some anti-inflammatory drugs for 10 days. After 2 weeks, I returned to see him, since the swelling continued to occur (he had previously told me it was OK to keep running since I had no real pain, just occasional soreness).
This past week, I've had an MRI on it, which also showed nothing of concern, so my treatment at this point is to run only on flat surfaces, since uphills may irritate it worse. My DR thinks I "might" have an issue with some inflamation of cartilage behind my knee cap, but can't know for sure without "scoping my knee".
Any ideas of what this is and/or how to treat it would be GREATLY appreciated! I've already had to cancel my next marathon, per DR's orders. Thanks!
