We had a woman named Rose from Florida who ran the 50 miler at the OilCreek100 Trail Runs ... on the rugged Gerard Hiking Trail in the Oil Creek State Park. And, this is a very technical kind of a Ultra Marathon course. She apparently had no problems ... but, I would rather be safe than sorry ... one piece of glass or slice of unseen metal driving into the bottom of the foot would eliminate any other benefits quite quickly. If you go to the OilCreek100.org web site and click on "Join Discussion Group", you can obtain Rose's Email address as she has made many posts on it ... if you have an interest in talking with someone who says she has been running barefoot since time out of mind.
