similar to Molly's story, I suffered from PF for a two year period—used to concentrate on stretching my toes, but found that working on the calf (especially the soleus) helped a lot.
Although PF pain may recede during a run, the real danger of this kind of constant irritation is the formation of bone spurs.
Btw, I had no luck with the Strasbourg sock and I'm not convinced that the PF didn't (eventually) just go away on its own. But I do try to pay attention to tight calf muscles.
