Not sure what a "novelty" workout means, but Yassos are an excellent speed workout and can be one of your weekly speed sessions if you choose to do so. Personally, I think 1200s or mile repeats are tougher or a ladder of 1600-1200-1000-800-600-400-200, but each runner is different. I realized a long time ago that they are not a "predictor" for my marathon times.
