I don't think Mr. Yasso ever said the workout was designed as a training tool—it was meant to be one gauge of whether or not you had a reasonable goal in mind for your marathon. It's a fitness test, especially for those who really are in the dark as to what their pace should be. It's useful to me to go out a few weeks prior to a marathon and run Yassos and see where I am. It works for me but it's not a core part of my training.
