While I think I am also menopausal, and I'm 55, I don't think that my speed is suffering because of that precisely. More likely it's because I'm not going to the track twice a week as I was two years ago. Other family obligations have taken precedent. However, some of the 'other' symptoms, like hot flashes wake me up more frequently at night so I'm not sleeping as well. The cat & dog have always been an occasional sleep disturbance. Add to that I'm having to get up an hour ealier to do a new car pool so I seem to be tired even on good days.
What I would suggest is to have you iron levels checked, ferritin level (stored iron) as well as hemeglobin & hematocrit. Possibly a thyroid profile as well, this can really mess with your metabolism. If you don't want to do the lab tests you should at least be taking a good multi-vitamin with iron even if you think you are menopausal as some people still lose iron with all the pounding from training.
Have you changed your training plan in the last few years? It could be that your body is just too used to the level your are at and needs something to shake it up a bit. Races, cross trainning or track work? I'd be really interested in anything you find that works for you as I want to have some ideas for my next slump...
good luck, and keep us informed, -Rita
