Congratulations on your weight loss!
I'm not a heavy runner and never really was, but I am one of those people who must eat many small meals rather than three normal ones. Its the way I am. I haven't found it to be a disadvantage. It might just be my imagination, but I find that I usually have energy. Also, eating like that kind of allows a little more variety in my carbs, or so it seems.
Good luck - that's really great. I'm glad you are going to go see your doctor to get advice, as well as talking to your fellow runners, and I hope that your marathon training goes well.
