do you think they'll let you split the race and run half in the AM and the other half in the PM... probably not...

if you can't get the whole run in one shot (either time) then consider adding a mile to each run.. that is, while 4+4 doesn't equal 8, 5+5 might be closer to the effort of 8... at least that's the way I've worked my weekday runs for the same reason as you... I also have a life...and getting in some miles is better than nothing...in fact I just read an 'old' article (from the 70s) about how Bill Rodgers used to carry his running gear with him all the time just so he could fit in his miles when ever he had time, sometimes splitting the daily runs in half...

on the weekends, for your long run, there should be no excuse for not getting it done in one lump...
