The term "shin splints" is now used to describe pain over the inside lower half of the shin, instead of as a generic term for pain in the front of the lower leg. If you have shin splints, you need to go through a process of healing and rehabilitation that a professional can advise you on—outside of anti- inflammatories, I am not aware of supplements that will assist in this process. If you have pain on the outside of your shin, you may have compartment syndrome, which, I can tell you from experience, is no fun at all. See a professional if you are serious about running
