I ran my first race and it was horrible race conditions. I spent years running for fun... well over a decade before I decided to tackle the marathon. After my first I was a bit pooped, but excited. Did an ice bath.. took a shower, and went out partying afterwards. The trick was I kept moving after the race, and didn't cramp down. Sure you're tired... but the enthusiasm of the race day is awesome... a lot better than hitting the pavement by yourself for 18-20 miles all alone.
