What you're describing is normal, especially before a first marathon. Yes, the wall is real. That's why gels have become so popular during the past 10 years or so. You've only got so much fuel when you start a long run, and when it's gone, it's gone.
Take a gel at least at mile ten and experiment after that. That's the energy part of it.
Other than that, it's just that you are putting your body into uncharted territory. Has your build-up gone right? Have you been following the 10% rule?
