I am a college student at Cornell University. I absolutely love running marathons, but there is no marathon in Ithaca, New York (where i attend college). So, I wanted to start one. I already spoke with some friends and we all are willing to work the next year on establishing a marathon for Ithaca, New York. There are so many runners here and I the survey I conducted showed a large portion of the students at Cornell would run in the marathon. This would build community spirit and I could do something I love. I am looking for information in starting this project. For instance, do I need officials, timing system, how do I map out the course, volunteers?, registration?, etc. If any one has any information on the process of starting a marathon, please contact me. I am very interested in getting this going (ideally, October 9th, 2002). Also, how can I coordinate this with a nationally recognized marathon association? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
