I ran NY two months after 9/11—it was an amazing day and it did help the city get back to some sort of normalcy...but this is different. Only five DAYS 'til the race (instead of two months) and the death toll is still rising, and damage is widespread. Mass transit is compromised and power remains out all over. Air travel will be tricky for a while. I'd cancel the race, and let entrants defer to next year—AND do so without a 2013 entry fee. I love this sport and love marathons—but it's just a race; it's running plain and simple. Let NY (and adjacent areas) grab its breath first. Let them tend to more pressing and important issues. There will always be a next time, another race, another year.
