I recently ran a half marathon. I PR'd by 9 minutes and went pretty hard toward the end of the run. The course was FULL of hills. Since a majority of my training had to be indoors on a treadmill, I really couldn't train for the downhill portions of the run. I couldn't raise the treadmill, like some experts recommend, that would have looked odd at the gym. I know the leg pain is par for the course after a half marathon, but the pain I had in my quads and hamstrings was more intense than ussual. Could it be that my quads and hammies were weakened (attrophied, for lack of a better word)by not being able to run outside for the winter? The pain was just soreness and not injury, thankfully. What else can I learn from the pain following a race?
