I wanted to start a thread about people's experiences with shorter races after the marathon, or with dividing your year up between marathon training and 5-21K racing and training.

After going through marathon training for the first time this winter, and then completing a marathon in February, I've been reducing my mileage a lot and focusing more on getting my speed up. So far, I've clocked my fastest 5K time in 9 months, and my fastest 10K time in over a year and a half. As the spring progresses, I can't help but think about breaking my PRs for these distances. I've never been this fast early in the season, and I'm sure it has to do with the heavy training that a marathon demands. This isn't quite intuitive, since my winter training was more for distance rather than speed, but it seems to be the case.

Does anyone have any thoughts?
