I was really hoping for a BQ time for you.
I think that I probably would have handled it the same way that you did.
Although I think that St. George is still in the cards, only your Achilles knows for sure. Get yourself healthy, and then assess what is best for getting the BQ.
As far as the Achilles, its sounds like an aggravation of a previous tweak. It could have been the downhill course, or if you wore a pair of racing shoes with less heel to toe differential than your usual training shoes.
Regardless, use lots of ice, get a night splint, and start some slow eccentric strength/stretch work.
