Were in the same age bracket So were supposed to be equal But you started running Before John Lennon was a Beatle
I wish I could say The same about me But I started when they knighted Sir Paul McCartney
Youre in great shape Youre as fit as a fiddle My shapes not great Kind of soft in the middle
You can run under A nine-minute split Me Im just lucky That my legs dont quit
On any given Saturday We both run a 5K As we head to the start line I smile and say Have a good race Best of luck to you The horn sounds and quickly You fade out of view
I do my best To shorten the space Between you and me But you pick up your pace
Now dont get me wrong I trained for this event I cant tell you the minutes And hours Ive spent Doing speed work, long distance Fartleks and tempos Pushing myself sometimes Way beyond my threshold
You round the marker And start heading back Im still going out As a matter of fact Im getting tired And you look refreshed Are you sure youre my age? No one would have guessed
By the time that I finally Round the last corner I see you at a table With the young guys Drinking water
Dont worry Im not asking You to provide an answer As to why I am slower And you are much faster I know that to win I need a training enhancer But theres always that hope Youll put in for a transfer...
