Stagger the starts for full and half marathoners

I don't know about the idea of hating half marathoners but I don't like to have a cluttered start where halfs, 5k etc. start at the same time as full marathoners. I like the idea of delayed starts where the full marathoners start first then the halfs and finally any other distance. You see when I finish the marathon its usually around 4:40 and by that time all of the festivities, support services (Massages) have stopped and the food is sometimes severely limited that I have a problem with. In fact, I like the way the Carlsbad marathon in Ca, start. They have a really early start for marathon walkers, another staggered start for slower marathoners (that's me) and a combined start for the faster marathoners combined with all of the other categories. That way, I am assured of at least getting a banana at the end.

At Carlsbad, last year, it was amazing to see how fast some of these kids are. The faster runners caught up to me at around mile 9 and streaked by — truly amazing to get to see them. Can't say the same for any ofthe other races— they start first and end first and no other runner gets to see them.. YUCK!!!

So there's my pet peeve and it feels good to get it out in the open instead of just to race directors. Maybe others can take up my cause and make the races flow better and have runners/walkers finish at around the same time and be able to share the finish.
