I have a question for some of the more veteran folks out there. I am a 36 year-old male. I have always been athletic, but concentrated on "fast-twitch" sports like football, basketball, tennis, etc. Due to the frequency of injuries in those sports, I decided to take up running. I have one year of training under my belt, logging nearly 1200 miles, three marathons, and three halves. My marathon times are 5:06, 4:40, and 3:33, in that order. Like many others, I have my sights on Boston.
My question is: given a training schedule based on minimum of 40 mi/wk, mixing in speed and distance work, how aggressive should my goals be for a marathon in June 2010 (Grandma's)?
My conundrum is that I don't know how often someone transitions to distance running from speed sports late in life and posts a 3:33 marathon in their first year on 25-30 mi/wk training.
Does it seem I may possess the make-up to go real low in June, given the right conditions? I am pushing too hard too fast? I don't have any injury problems or anything like that on my current training regimen.
