I agree with Sunbeam's 2nd point. I am training for a full marathon in November, but saw that there was a half marathon coming up. I was doing 7-9 mile long runs, and around 20 miles weekly. Sure enough, about 9 miles into the half marathon, my quads started to fatigue. I was able to push through to finish, but had to take 4 days off before the aches and pains subsided.
