Staying fueled and hydrated at 10 min/mile pace

I am training to do my first marathon in May in Traverse City, MI and am concerned about keeping my body fueled and hydrated during the 4+ hours it will take me. I have run half marathons and usually just drank what was provided at the water stops and carried my own Gu. I perspire heavily when running, which helps on warm days, but has occasionally lead to muscle cramping. I have read about carrying your own special electrolyte drinks to supplement what the race supplies, but am unsure of what to use or how to do so. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
